There is another pirate themed nautical game that is just PvP. Wouldn't you prefer to do without the complaints of people who lost loot you don't even care about? Wouldn't you have more fun fighting other people who also want fights? I have to imagine you would find more enjoyment in a game where the other players you encounter are all like-minded. Note this doesn't mean they won't take your loot, there's not much reason for them not too, although there are some people who will just leave it there and run off in search of the next fight. The third group just wants to fight/kill you, loot is unimportant. The PvPers from the first group want to defeat you and take your loot. It's the intention and mentality that are different. They will both attack on sight, they will both chase you for long periods of time, they will both come barreling right back at you if you manage to sink them. Those players from the 1st group and players in the 3rd group will often perform the same actions in game. There are plenty of people in the 1st group who are highly or completely PvP oriented. This 3rd group is not "the PvP only / the mainly PvP" crowd. They don't care, they just want the joy of the fight. They don't need "loot based" in that sentence. This third group has a mentality matching a plain and straight naval combat game. The third group I'm happy to say I can offer an alternative to, one they'd be happier with. What I do suggest though, is that you accept you are not this games target audience, try to gain some contentedness in the fact an option so close to what you want exists (as opposed to nothing close at all), and stop trying to get Rare tailor their game to people outside the target audience, pulling it away from what they want to make. Sadly, I don't know of an alternative, and far be it from me to suggest you go somewhere else when I don't have a somewhere else you could go. If you are in this group of players, I'm sorry to say this is not the game you should be playing. What's important to note is they don't want PvP included, which basically means they don't want the multiplayer experience. Some games out there have mechanics that distinguish the co-op experience from the solo experience, but this isn't one of them. Whether they would prefer to play solo or co-op isn't too important here, if they had the game they want both would be options anyhow, and it's ultimately the same experience. A sailing sim with treasure maps and occasional AI enemies (the skeletons). The Pirate theme may or may not be important (person to person I suppose) but ultimately they just want a nautical exploration game. The second group of people basically wants that last sentence to end about halfway through. However they choose play (which, again, none of the options are wrong), the point is that their mentality matches the game they are playing.Ī pirate themed nautical exploration multiplayer experience with loot (theft) based PvP. They might be friendly, they might be hostile, they might only PvP, only PvE (minus self defense), or a mix of both. These are the people who want to play the game Sea of Thieves is supposed to be. The first group, which also appears to be the smallest group based on my personal experience thus far, is simply put the target audience. This thread is about mentality, intention, and the enjoyment both of the people addressed and everyone else. I'm also not going to speak on blatant trollers/griefers/whatever, as those people could exist in all 3 groups. I'm also aware that it's not like I've met everyone. I'm not going to tell you you ought to be more hostile or friendly. I'm not going to tell you you shouldn't PvE only. I'm not going to tell you you shouldn't be PvP crazy. This thread does not talk about playstyle or choices.
