Barred owls and Screech owls can each live 10-12 years in the wild, while the larger Great Horned owl can live over 20 years in the wild. They're also extremely quiet when they fly such that their movements can't even be picked up by high-sensitivity sound equipment, another attribute which helps them catch prey at night. Owls have an incredible sense of hearing and earsight and can locate prey under snow based on their attunement to little movements. Lynch: Eastern Screech owls and Barred owls nest in tree cavities, while Great Horned owls may rely on nests built and vacated by other animals, such as crows or hawks, as no owls build their own nests.
